Trevor M. Harris, Co-Director of GeoVirtual Laboratory and Chair of Geology and Geography
Dr. Harris is the Eberly Family Distinguished Professor of Geography and Department Chairperson at West Virginia University, Co-Director of the West Virginia State GIS Technical Center, and President of VRGIS Corporation. He received his BA in Geography and History (Joint Honors), 1974, University of Hull, United Kingdom, and his Ph.D. in Geography, 1982, University of Hull, United Kingdom and specialized in Geographic Information Sciences. Dr. Harris' research interests include Geographic Information Science; GIS and Virtual Reality; GIS and Society; GIS in the humanities; GIS and archeology/historical geography; Environmental Impact Assessment; Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis; and Expert Systems and Neural Network approaches to Soil Erosion. He has published 31 peer reviewed publications and 24 non-peer reviewed publications and technical reports and presented over 100 conference presentations and 43 invited presentations. Dr. Harris has obtained and managed in excess of $9,250,000 in external funded academic research projects from Federal, state, and private industry, with sponsors including NIMA, NSF (3), FGDC, USEPA, American Electric Power, National Guard Bureau, USGS, NSDI, and NASA.

David (Vic) V. Baker, Co-Director of GeoVirtual Laboratory
Vic Baker is a faculty member of the West Virginia University (WVU) Department of Geography and Geology, Lecturer in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, Director of the WVU GeoVirtual Laboratory, and Scientific Director of VRGIS Corporation. He graduated from West Virginia University with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science in 1996. Currently, he is in charge of a multi-million dollar research program integrating virtual reality (VR), geographic information systems (GIS), and location based services (LBS). Most recently he served as the Senior Visualization Scientist for the USDA National Geospatial Development Center, with a previous position as the Associate Director of the WV Virtual Environments Laboratory housed within the WVU Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. Vic is accustomed to high profile projects and has directed research projects exceeding $6 million, including SBIR awards from the U.S. Department of Education and the National Science Foundation. With his extensive background in mechanical engineering and computer science, coupled with management experience over a diverse team of developers, artists, and interdisciplinary colleagues, Vic is experienced in all aspects of the research and development cycle. Vic is comfortable defining research agendas, identifying resource needs, leading research teams, and following through with patent filings and technology transfer. Vic has served as a representative of the West Virginia Governor's Office of Technology during diplomatic trips to Japan to promote technology exchange and job growth. Additionally, Vic has low vision and has been exploring and developing innovative new technologies that can assist persons with visual disabilities and situational disabilities.
